Williams signs with UT

Northeast guard ready to contend for national title with Lady Vols

November 15, 2008 - GEORGE ROBINSON, The Leaf-Chronicle

Kamiko Williams used to dream about the day she'd don Tennessee orange. It's been an obsession of hers since she was 9 years old.

Even as a middle school student — the daughter in a military family — Williams didn't think it was possible.

But sitting at a desk in the Northeast High library Friday afternoon, Williams put her signature on a piece of paper that cemented that dream.

"I always had this feeling that I could do it," she said, after signing her national letter of intent to play basketball for the defending women's NCAA champions. "But there was a big part of me that said, 'Nah, it can't happen. Tennessee is too big.' I thought maybe I'd go somewhere a little smaller. But here I am."

And right beside Williams Friday was her father, Vincent — a master sergeant in the Army who is attending school at the United States Army Sergeant Major Academy at Fort Bliss near El Paso, Texas.

"That was a huge shock to me," Williams said. "He called me Thursday and asked when I'd be signing and I told him (Friday) and he said OK. Then I opened my door at home, and he's standing right there."

Vincent Williams, who was a high school standout himself in Washington, D.C., more than 20 years ago, always knew his daughter had the opportunity to do big things.

"I always told her that it's not too many people who get to dream about something and have that dream come true," he said. "I had aspirations when I played ball. I was a McDonald's All-American nominee in high school. But Kamiko has set her mind to something, and she's been able to accomplish it.""   Read More

Signing day special for Clarksville's Williams

November 14, 2008 - Dan Fleser, GoVolsXtra.com

Tennessee signee Kamiko Williams had a special guest for her signing party at Clarksville Northeast High on Friday.

Williams' father, Vincent, made a special trip home for the occasion, arriving Thursday night. He's in the U.S. Army and has been away, training in Texas.  Original Article

August 7, 2008 - Chris Hansen & Mark Lewis, ESPN.com

Five-foot-eleven Kamiko Williams from Clarksville, Tenn., has a versatile and at times explosive game. The combo guard for the GA/Lina 76'ers can take over a game with the ball in her hands and become a one man bad dream for defenses. She has the ability to play both the point and the shooting guard positions and has already committed to taking those skills to Knoxville and the University of Tennessee. The left hander's attack is aggressive and she's just as good in transition as she is in the half court. She can get all the way to the rim or pull up with the short jumper when the defense rotates.  Original Article

April 7, 2008 - GEORGE ROBINSON, The Leaf-Chronicle

Northeast's girls basketball team didn't have the ending it had hoped for, but it still had the most dangerous roster from top to bottom in the city. And most teams weren't exactly thrilled to have to face a team that could take a four-point lead and turn it into a 24-point advantage in a matter of minutes. That's been the reality for Northeast the past four years and each year a star player has emerged to grab the spotlight. Last year it was Dawn Evans. This year it belonged to Kamiko WilliamsRead More

October 19, 2007 - Pat Summitt/Lady Vols News

The Tennessee Lady Vols also picked up a commitment on Thursday, but it wasn't Webb's Glory Johnson or any player from the Class of 2008. Instead, head coach Pat Summitt got a head start on the Class of 2009.  Clarksville's Kamiko Williams announced she would sign with the Lady Vols in November of 2008. The word came after Williams took an unofficial visit to Knoxville.   Read More
